I took a few piano lessons at around this time, so I was exposed to the simple and fun little piano pieces in piano instruction books. At least one or two of those simple practice pieces had something to do with bells and chimes. I loved the sound of bells, and that provided the inspiration for this piece. I knew good music wasn’t based on perfect fifths, but by this time that’s what I was used to in composing my music. This composition allowed me to make really effective use of perfect fifths and get away with it. This was a really fun composition for me to work on and I still think it’s quite fun to play.

T. 8--Bell Chimes Overture
