T. 39--Zephawood Duet

The lovely interlocking melodies of this duet get stuck in my head on occasion, more so than the other two related duets. Notice the similarity between the first two measures of the flute part and the first measure of the melody from Ravel’s Bolero. I liked that melody a lot.

I will also mention my inexperience with writing for wind instruments at the time. I thought slurs were the way to indicate when to take a breath, instead of comma marks. I realize now that I was wrong. Nevertheless, I did want this piece to sound very smooth and legato.

(See also the statement written for T. 28--Bandonna Duet.)
