I
had this melody and counter-melody for a while before I settled on what I was
going to do with it. This song is associated with the “Once Upon A Misty May”
story. It would come at a part where Johnny decides to spend a night in the
fortress of his childhood adventures. The four enchanted statues sing this song
to him as he sleeps. This song also expresses the sorrow I felt
at leaving my high school years. As usual, I came up with the music first, and
wrote words that seemed to fit the meter and emotion of the song. I am very
pleased with how this song turned out. Like the Mist melody, the song is sweet, even if melancholy. One final note, on the second
verse I originally had the basses singing “oo,” but I thought it would also
work very nicely to have the basses sing the lyrics with the other singers
there.
Since the words may not be clear in the recording, I've included them below:
Moonlight wishes you good night.
Dream what e'er you will.
By day, you'll be on your way,
On your way down the hill.
Starlight watching you tonight,
In abundance, roam.
All year, gone from there to here,
Leading you safely home.
Sunlight, don't dismiss the night.
Time, for once, be still!
That way, we will have to stay,
Always upon our hill.
